Top-5 finish in Wrisco Winternationals opener at East Bay Raceway Park

On Monday afternoon, Stormy and Johnny Scott returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Fla.) for the Wrisco Winternationals opener. Drawing a stout field of 70 cars, Stormy laid down the third-fastest lap in his group before picking up a heat victory. Johnny’s night was over after he followed up an eighth-place finish in his heat with a ninth-place outing in his B-Main. With $5,000 on the line in the feature, Stormy clawed forward one spot in the 30-lapper to register a fifth-place finish. He trailed Dennis Erb Jr., Hudson O’Neal, Tim McCreadie, and Shane Clanton to the checkers. (Heath Lawson photo)

After losing Tuesday’s program to wet weather, Stormy locked his spot into the Wednesday’s feature with a second-place finish in his heat while Johnny finished fifth. Needing to place second or better to make the $7,000-to-win A-Main, Johnny logged a ninth-place outing. Starting the feature in eighth, Stormy held his spot for all 40 laps to finish eighth.

For another $7,000-to-win A-Main on Thursday, Johnny locked his spot into the show with a consolation victory while Stormy had to rely on a provisional. Coming two spots shy of a Top-10 finish, Stormy improved 14 spots to finish 12th. Johnny passed six cars in the 40-lap affair to place 15th.

On Friday, both drivers missed a transfer spot in their heat race, relegating them into the B-Main. Locking the Top 2, Stormy recorded a fifth-place finish while Johnny streaked to a 10-lap victory. Stormy passed 15 cars to finish 14th while Johnny retired on lap 35.

To wrap up the week-long Wrisco Winternationals on Saturday, Johnny grabbed the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat while Stormy was forced to take a provisional into the finale. With $15,000 on the line, Stormy pulled off early while Johnny held his spot in the 50-lapper to finish 16th.
